Nathan A. Baker papers, 1862-1931 [manuscript].

The collection contains the personal and business papers of Baker and his family, autobiographical sketches; diaries (1865-1867); correspondence; financial and legal documents; information on Baker's business ventures and associations: Baker's Springs; Jones Vestibule Sleeping Car Company; Denver, Apex and Western Railway Company; Tabor Grand Gold Mines and Mill Company (some of these with H.A.W. Tabor). Photographs in the collection include views of Nathan A. Baker, friends and associates; Garfield Cadets in uniform near the Baker home in Colo.; the Cheyenne Leader (newspaper) established by Nathan Baker in 1867 in Cheyenne, Wyo.; group portrait of Baker and others; scenes on top of Pikes Peak, El Paso County, Colo.; photo mechanical portrait of N. A. Baker.

Nathan Addison Baker was a pioneer Colo. and Wyo. journalist and businessman. He was born in Lockport, N.Y. on Aug. 3, 1843 and lived in Racine, Wis. 1854-1859 before arriving with his family in Denver, Colo. in March 1860. Baker worked for early Denver newspapers as well as publishing newspapers in Cheyenne, Laramie, and South Park, Wyo. He also worked for the Denver Mint (1906-1921) and was involved with railroad companies, mining and other ventures. Baker died in Denver, Colo. on May 27, 1934...
